This dynamic role works to support the Cooperative’s internal communications efforts to create and maintain a favorable image for the Cooperative. Executes communications activities in support of services to increase awareness and participation. Works to enhance the Cooperative’s image and increase engagement with employees. 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The following duties are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Snapping Shoals EMC. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the department supervisor.

  • Works to ensure that all internal communications adhere to the Cooperative brand, as well as the style, design, voice and standards of the Communications Department.
  • Creates and arranges publication of all internal newsletters, including the Current Times, Board Bulletin and Staff Bulletin, by providing accurate written content, photography and design.
  • Creates and arranges publication of all internal informational/promotional materials, including flyers, forms, booklets, brochures, business cards, etc.
  • Creates and posts all content for the Cooperative’s intranet and digital signage.
  • Collaborate with various departments in developing and delivering messages to inform all employees about current and upcoming initiatives and/or projects.
  • Provides all internal photography for the Cooperative, including new hire photos, promotion photos, service award photos and employee events.
  • Provides all internal video production for the Cooperative, or contracts with professionals to arrange all aspects of the production.
  • Facilitates the Cooperative Spirit Award by promoting the program, managing the application process and facilitating nominations.
  • Works with other members of the Communications Department to encourage employee participation in the Power of ONE community group and other volunteer initiatives by promoting and publicizing upcoming events.
  • Tracks communication tactics, evaluates effectiveness, and prepares reports on outcomes and impact.
  • Digitally archives the Cooperative’s internal photo library.
  • Assists in preparing reports, presentations and proposals as needed.                 
  • Assists with planning company-wide employee events.
  • Assists with Annual Meeting planning by setting employee assignments and informing employees of event details.                                                                   
  • Serves as a backup to the External Communications Specialist, including photography, posting, monitoring and responding to social media comments and questions.
  • Builds favorable relationships with the public, members, employees, and vendors.

Qualifications

 

Language Skills:

Ability to create content for publication that conforms to Cooperative’s style and format. Must possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical materials, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to proper style and format.

 

Required Technical Skills:

  • Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Excellent photography skills required.
  • Proficiency in graphic design required.
  • Proficiency in video production required.
  • Highly competent in all social media platforms.
  • Excellent desktop publishing skills required utilizing current technology and software.
  • Experience with Microsoft suite, including Word and Outlook.
  • Able to perform in a Mac or Windows environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in timely manner.
  • Ability to use judgment and wisdom in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to develop professional relationships with area news media, advertising representatives, community groups and colleagues.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle crisis situations.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to work irregular hours
  • Some travel required
  • Must be able to accurately input and retrieve data from computer

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

  • Valid Georgia driver’s license

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or related field from a four-year college or university; two years related experience and/or training in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
