The Lineman position is the sixth of a seven-step progression to Lead Lineman. It includes correspondence courses, tests, and training labs.  Duties include work on single phase or three-phase OHD/UG equipment or lines with limited supervision. Lead crew in the occasional absence of the Lead Lineman, Crew Leader or Crew Foreman. Development of decision-making skills concerning system construction and maintenance will be increased. This position also includes construction, maintenance, and repairs to electrical systems for residential, commercial or industrial establishments by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. They are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of Snapping Shoals EMC. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

• Demonstrates electrical system hazard recognition.
• Demonstrates safe construction work practices.
• Learns and applies the SSEMC OHD/UG three-phase framing and construction specifications.
• Learns and applies the SSEMC time code and time sheets process for the proper accounting of hours related to construction and maintenance work.

Assist with the following under limited or no supervision:

Evaluate all types of construction and maintenance situations and recognizes self-limitation in order to obtain additional assistance.

• Demonstrates working knowledge for all duties of the Apprentice Lineman positions.
• Performs necessary work on OHD/UG energized facilities on single-phase and multi-phase systems.
• Installs and connects transformers, fuse cutouts, arresters, switches, oil circuit reclosers and sectionalizers on energized system.
• Splices broken conductors, re sagging broken lines, replacing all type damaged. electrical apparatus and facilities, resetting reclosers and sectionalizers.
• Switch three-phase loop fed or single-phase multiple fed U/G systems.
• Directs safe roadside work zone set up.
• Make multi-phase transformer connections, service connection giving consideration to phase rotation, secondary voltage, CT meter and connections, as well as other related issues.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Successful completion of a recognized electrical lineman training course.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of the skill requirements in all levels of the Apprentice Lineman program.
• Or equivalent combination of education and previous work experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Valid Commercial Driver's License and Medical Examiner's Certificate of Qualification required
• Recognized Lineman Certificate
• DOT Flagging Procedures card

Other Skills and Abilities:

• Must have basic first aid skills
• Performs Pole Top rescue
• Must know CPR
• Overtime required
• Performs Bucket Truck rescue
• GEMC Distribution Switching Course or equivalent
  General computer skills
• ITS certificate and recertification
• Discuss construction projects and related work permits in the absence of Crew Leader or Foreman
