Apparatus Technician I is a dynamic role that performs the installation, programming, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing, and testing of various electronic and electrical apparatus, transmission media, metering apparatus and substation and line equipment. There will be occasional exposure to work on or near energized and de-energized equipment in SSEMC-owned facilities, substations, on pole lines and at member premises under direct supervision of the Apparatus department supervisor or other responsible personnel as assigned. A successful candidate has excellent electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, enjoys doing meticulous hands-on work like painting/sanding equipment, and values a teamwork environment.

Responsibilities

ASSISTS WITH THE FOLLOWING UNDER DIRECT SUPERVISION:

 

Installation, programming, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of:

  • Substation facilities and equipment
  • Single- and three-phase line equipment
  • All automated meter reading (AMR) and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) related equipment and apparatus including SCE, meter modules and devices
  • All single- and three-phase metering devices and related apparatus
  • SCADA system components, transmission media and related equipment
  • DSR/voltage reduction equipment and systems
  • SSEMC security systems, access control systems, A/V and CCTV components and equipment
  • Surge protection devices including meter socket adapters at member premises

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • A minimum of twelve months successful job performance preferably in an electrical, electronic, construction or engineering field.
  • Current enrollment in a technical college in a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted as approved by the department manager.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • To perform this job successfully, it is necessary to have basic computer skills and practical experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Georgia Driver's License Required; Commercial Driver’s License preferred
  • Must be able to obtain the following within 3 months of hire date:

Basic first aid skills certification including CPR required

Forklift Operators Certificate required

Bucket truck rescue certification required

 

OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • General knowledge and execution of:

Safe work practices

Basic electricity and electronic principles

Proper use of basic tools

  • Ability to read and follow schematic diagrams and blueprints
  • Irregular hours, overtime, and storm duty required
  • Subject to be on-call as required
  • Legible handwriting required
  • Completion of correspondence courses, tests, training labs and factory and other schools, some of which will result in out-of-town travel
